God’s word never contradicts itself
( commentary by Tom Gaston )
Everytime we open God’s word, the Bible, then we must be convinced and believe with all of our hearts that His word is divinely inspired, in otherwords, God breathed. If one doesn’t believe this truth concerning God’s word, then the Bible ends up becoming a “playground of distorted self interpretations” by those those who recklessly handle it, and who will devise unscriptural doctrinal teachings which distort the context of Scripture passages, which inturn then invites and suggests that God’s word contradicts itself.
(1.) All Scripture is inspired by God.
2Timothy 3:16-17…….All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, eqipped for every good work.”
( 2.)……If all Scripture is inspired by God ( and indeed it is ), then God is not the author of confusion.
1 Corinthians 14:33…..for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
( 3.) ……And if God is not the author of Confusion, then It is impossible for Him to lie.
Titus 1:2 ….in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago,
Hebrews 6:18…so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.
( 4.) ……Therefore since it is impossible for God to lie, then neither He nor His word is capable of contradiction.
Titus 1:9……holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he ( the elder / pastor teacher / and also the laity ) will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.
God’s word never contradicts itself, but rather it is always the one who lacks understanding of what they are reading who contradicts God’s word. Such biblically uneducated people are the ones who are responsible for inviting “contradiction” into a passage of Scripture by using other Scripture passages out of context in order to try and substantiate their false teachings, and thus refute the clear truth with which they were just presented and confronted with from God’s word in another section of it.
God never gives us clear and precise teaching which can be fully understood in its context by the reader on a certain subject or doctrine on one page of Scripture, and then when you flip to the next page He then contradicts Himself in what He just stated and taught you on the previous page which you just read. There are many who are doing this very thing in order to support and justify their false doctrinal teachings. And sadly in the process such people appear to be oblivious and unaware to the fact that what they are doing is very destructive to the word of God as they are grossly suggesting that God’s word is not inspired, and that God is the author of confusion, that He can lie, and therefore He contradicts Himself. Nothing could be further from the truth.
There are no contradictions in God’s word, but instead contradiction is created within the minds of those who are devoid of the understanding of what they are reading in God’s inspired word. And so for such people to continue in their false doctrinal teachings, then they have to deny the truth which they are often confronted with in the clear and plain surface text of Scripture, and then wilfully continue on in their own destructive and reckless approach by taking Holy Spirit inspired passages of Scripture out of context for their own defense in order to protect their unsound and unbiblical interpretations. Such a destructive process of God’s word becomes a vicious cycle which only gets more distorted over time.
A true born-again Christian who desires to be a faithful and honest steward and student of the word of God must be willing to demonstrate “humility” in order to be taught. For if the word of God has corrected us and shown us the error of our understanding and teaching, then we must be willing to forsake that which is distorted and embrace the truth which the word of God has clearly revealed to us. That takes humility which these days many are not willing to do! The self-centered attitude of “pride” will always keep any Christian from learning and growing in Christ. God has given the Church “teachers” ( Eph. 4:11), but not everyone has the gift of teaching.
Let me give you an example here of some of the encounters that I have had with many in the past. Over the years I have confronted and challenged many Christians who embrace and teach unsound doctrine which contradicts the word of God. And many times after I had Scripturally corrected them and shown them from the clear plain text of Scripture “their error” in what they believe and teach, then many of them would always say something like the following:…”Yeah, but what are you going to do with these other Scripture verses over here which seem to say just the opposite of what you’re telling me…etc.”
Such a response from any professing Christian is clearly demonstrating and revealing that they are now suggesting that God’s word contains all sorts of “contradictions.” And sadly these people are usually totally unaware of what they have just done to God’s word by responding with such a distorted and unbiblical statement.
We live in a very deceptive time in Church history when God’s word is being attacked, hated, and distorted like never before, even by “so called Christians.” Just turn on your TV and watch a number of them perform and give their “distorted doctrinal spill” on TBN ( Health, wealth, prosperity preachers which come a dime a dozen! ). But we who truly know Christ, and who are mature and “sound in doctrine” should not be surprised at all by such evil for the Apostle Paul has already warned us in his epistles of what we can expect in these last days for the Church.
1Timothy 4:1,2…..But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times ( the later days of the Church age ) some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron.”
Matthew 7:22,23….Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
They will say “Jesus is Lord”, but Obviously their prophesying, their casting out of demons, and their so called miracles which they say “they performed” in the name of Jesus were obviously NOT done by the power of Christ because Jesus calls them “workers of iniquity.” This means then that these deceiving works which were done had to be done by only one other power, and that power had to be noneother than the devil himself.
Oh yes, the devil has, does, and conintues to deceive many professing Christians today by making them believe that what they just witnessed had to be a miracle from God Himself, but of which God had nothing whatsoever to do with, but instead was initiated by the devil himself. This keeps Christians “chasing their tails” in following after false deception which they seem to have no descernment over. Such responses by so called professing christians has always made me seriously question whether or not some of them are even truly saved or not? God only knows for sure!
2 Timothy 2:15……Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
