On the morning of September 26, 2010 in Nha Trang, Vietnam, I earnestly cried out to God for a wife.
The gist of this sobbing plea was “Dear God I have made a mess of my life, every single time I have chosen “on my own – without you” I have chosen WRONG! So – Here today I come as a broken man ready to fully acknowledge my complete incompetence in choosing a mate. Knowing that you are my creator, you know me far beyond human understanding ‘ certainly far beyond me knowing myself, I therefore, hereby this morning pray you – yes you dear God almighty in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior, please choose a wife, my wife for me. Thank you, in Jesus’ name, Amen!”
I then got up and started my day planned as a sailing trip with 2 friends. I met my friends and we set out for a day of sailing with me skippering. We were thoroughly enjoying the beautiful day out at sea with perfect conditions.
Out of nowhere, one of my sailing partners, a very bright, intuitive young lady asked me if I would ever remarry again. Surprised by her question, I told her about my morning prayer request, adding this answers your question. She responded by asking me with skepticism if I really believed God would answer this prayer. When I answered in the affirmative, she said something like, “okay, we’ll see or you will find out. “
At approximately 3PM, we returned to shore. I secured the boat and my friends left. Afterwards, I walked up to a small portable outdoor shower on the beach to wash off the salt water and sand. This shower happened to be located next to a popular beach restaurant and lounge.
I stepped off the shower platform and standing there no more than 20 feet was this beautiful young Vietnamese woman talking to her friend. She asked me about myself and introduced herself as Tram Thi Anh Nguyen.
After we exchanged greetings, she told me she was looking for an English teacher. I told her I was an English teacher and wasn’t taking on any more students, but I was looking for a wife.
I was almost knocked over when she said, “okay, I will be.” I said. “What?” She repeated.
We dated for 8 months are we married in June.
Today we’ve almost been married 7 years. We have a beautiful daughter, Samey Nguyen Sheets. I try not to let a day pass without thanking God for answering my prayer.
